Here is Seattle our weather has been HOT. To top it off, I've been on vacation and my 3 hens were 'cooped' up more than normal by a fairly lax chicken 'tender' when they normally range my entire backyard. One of the hens is eating fine, is talkative and comb & nostrils look fine but she has lost many of the downy feathers surrounding her vent and the skin around it is whitish and quills are broken. I don't see any critters climbing around the area. I've disinfected the coop then replaced all nesting material. The other birds are fine/don't have same symptoms.

Is this a "depluming mite"? Do I treat the single bird or do I dust the coop with a pesticide? Other birds are fine.

Thanks for your advice!

Hmm... I would probably dust the coop and all of the hens with some pet-safe sevin dust/Permethrin. After 10 days, repeat. Be sure to get every nook and cranny of the coop. Also, you may want to check for evidence of mites around the base of the feathers on their head and neck.
