That looks like a pullet to me but clear images of both the tail and neck would be more helpful.

With a cockerel/rooster, the hackle feathers (around the neck) are long, thin with pointed tips and are fairly loose against the neck. They also have saddle feathers...same long and thin with pointed tips that grow from the middle of their backs to the base of their tails and drape to either side.

A pullet/hen will have shorter, rounded tipped feathers both around their necks and tails that are tight fitting against their bodies.

A crowing hen is not unheard of, particularly if there isn't a rooster present.

How old is this bird? If still young then it is a cockerel. I can't tell from the pictures, but what I'm looking for is saddle feathers forming near the tail and whether or not the wingbow is a darker red tan the rest of the body.

If it's only 8 weeks...then I have to agree with keesmom and say cockerel. The image you have with a pullet in the background...you can see how light that girl's comb is in comparison to the one in the foreground. A cockerel's comb will usually develop at a much younger age and saddle feathers won't come in until he's a bit older.
