I got 3 chicks given to me when I bought 2 laying hens. After watching them grow I am concerned that I may have got a rooster in the mix.
I was hoping someone may be able to help me make that distinction clear.

I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but the bird in question is definitely a rooster. :o( He's likely a Black Australorp, but you can check the bottoms of his feet to be certain. If they are an obvious yellow, he's a Jersey Black Giant. If they are another color (whitish, pinkish, grayish), then he is a Black Australorp.

For my personal 'chicken education', how can you tell? I'm new to this stuff.
By the long pointed saddle feathers and sickle feathers that are developing on it. Also, the comb is larger and redder than those of the hens.
