try to get some screws through the main frame into those cross pieces if not there. If they are remove them and add longer/slightly bigger ones. Sometimes those can be really flimsy and would hate to see it collapse. If you are worried add a diagonal 1x4 to the back as well

The dowels aren't good for chickens, and the flat boards seem pretty narrow unless you have bantams. Your best bet might be to take it apart and use the wood.
