Poor baby
. I completely forgot about the lethal gene.....that's a good point.
Would the chick make it the full "term" even with that gene? Man, so much to learn!!
To me, and AGAIN I'm really not any help, the belly looks like they do when they first hatch and they haven't fully closed off their abdomen yet. I've read on some other threads that this is normal and that it will close on it's own a little while after the hatch.
It could be that he died when mom left the nest, it could be genetics, or it could be something you may never find out.....the worst of the three IMO, because I always need to know WHY??? Nurses
. I'm happy that there was at lease one other live baby in there when you went back and checked. Its also reassuring that shes staying on the nest. Crossing my fingers for you that the rest hatch and are healthy!!
Following your hatch has me super anxious about our looming hatch tomorrow

Congrats!
I'll have to look at the pics on a bigger screen, but if you have true aracuana eggs, keep the lethal genes in mind. Depending on the breeders stock, you could lose some just because of lethal genes.

Makes me feel better I didnt' make a totally bad decision! I just went into nurse mode I think - clear up and get everyone back into their beds
Just back from QiGong and she is still sitting and I saw at least 1 chick before she hid it from me. I was thinking about it all while at qiGong (I know I'm not supposed to think but I'm not very good at that yet!). I think she left the nest because of the stuck chick. Possibly the other chick died of cold as it was being born as mummy wasn't there? Although I think it's butt looked weird (but don't know what it should look like). Here are some pics the poor little darling:
Any ideas?
