My Babies Are In The Mail!

Out of all the MPC chicks that survived, I got all pullets, just as I ordered. But I know that sexing is an inexact science. The roos I ended up with came from feed store chicks. I got a couple to replace the ones I lost, then a couple more just because they were chicks and they were there. Out of 6 feed store chicks, 3 were roos. Yep. <sigh>

I think that's common for feed store chicks? I mean I know they usually get in "straight run" but it always seems like a lot of Roos. We got three chicks a few years back to raise for a couple weeks and then gave them to friends. Two turned out to be boys. Maybe we are just bad pickers! Poor Roos, I hope they don't get a complex! I wish I could keep one, but unfortunately I can't.

First thing you should do is dip their beaks in water. They'll be fine, haven't had any issues with shipped chicks and I too live in WA. Give your post office a heads up since they don't typically deliver chicks to a residence.

Yes, I called my post office thinking I would need to pick them up but they said they would deliver.
Hi,
No, no! Go pick them up. Last thing they need is to ride in a rough USPS truck while they take time to complete the trip to your house. get there as early as you can, even before they open in the morning and pick them up.
Best,
Karen

The post office just called!!! (7am) My chickies are there and I could hear them cheeping in the background!! I'll be getting them after I drop the kids off at school! Woo hoo! (I'm not excited or anything....)

Congratulations!
I ordered the first time this year from Meyer (three easter Eggers). I never ordered directly from a hatchery before so I was nervous, but the experience was amazing!
I would do it all over again. The chicks were the healthiest I have ever seen, they were all girls (just as I had ordered).
All three are nicely integrated into my flock now and are now 23 weeks old. One even started laying a few weeks ago and has consistently laid a blue egg ever since.
Still waiting for the others to lay.

They've arrived!
400
