For 2 days now my baby chick butt has been sticking and fulling with poop. No matter how many times I've cleaned it off, it keeps coming back and the chick is getting weaker?
What can I do? Is it already too late for the chick to survive?
I've cleaned it just now and he's sitting and closing his eyes getting weaker and can't stand or walk that much, only for some seconds

is there anything to make him normal again?
Thank You

Keep the pasty butt cleaned often... what are you feeding? Sometimes offering a scrambled egg can help.

If the chick is drinking add poultry nutri drench to the water. If not, a direct dose to the beak is suggested every half hour or so until the chick is strong enough to go eat.

:fl

Put a light coating of vaseline around the vent after cleaning. It will prevent poop from sticking. I would also get some Nutridrench and give it some of that. It will give it a boost.

If i only knew earlier when it started.
But he's dead now.
Now I know what I can do if it happens to other chicks.
Thank You!

Sorry for your loss. :(

There may have been some internal digestion or absorption issues that we can't detect. It happens. :hmm

I tried Vaseline and it did not seem to give the desired effect. I might try again though! Some folks will use coconut oil type stuff.

FWIW, many folks will claim pasty butt is caused by your brooder being too hot. While that may be one possible cause there are many including any type of stress or even a bird that simply doesn't squat far enough. I've raised hundreds of chicks and only a few suffered from the condition... INCLUDING some raised by broody hens! All on the same diet and such. Each chick faces getting it's own individual system up and going differently as we all have different immune systems and such.

We all learn as we go!

Looking at your pics, sorry I'm nosy but with helpful or at least informational intent ... newspaper is not generally suggested as it is quite slippery. I'm not sure if tearing it into pieces and crumbles helps or not. My paper towels aren't much better. But I noticed they have a smoother and a rougher side. So I try to put the rougher side up to give the babes some traction. It's *supposed* to help prevent injuries.
