I ordered 2 runners from Murry Mcmurray.
A black girl, and a chocolate boy. They should be hatched now! I'm so excited I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas.

These are my first hatchery chicks.

Has anyone else ordered their ducks from there? Where they happy with them?
Have pics of runners from them?

I'll post pics when they get here!

I got some Indian Runners from McMurray years ago, they were good. When they grew up they wandered a bit far and the neighbor got upset with me--- in spite of the fact that his guinea fowl were spending the night in my trees....

JJ,

so happy for you!

My runners, from Meyer, arrived nearly six weeks ago. They are chocolate (6) and black (5), too. Good choice!

I was prepared for them to grow fast, but their gain in height was truly impressive! My tallest, a black runner, is now close to 21 inches tall when she stands at attention. They all tuck their tails in when they are on the alert. And, wow, do they run!

They have gotten a bit more high strung the last few weeks - I recently figured out that they are likely feeling cornered as they grow and their brooder (16 sf) seems to them to shrink.

Once the night time temperatures warm up a bit, they can be out in their new house, 32 sf, plus their night pen, and their daytime duckyard, and their rotational forage areas. . .

Sounds like you have a nice set up waiting for them.

I have a fawn & white runner. (She's in my icon.)

She's def a runner, but not very erect like the ones they show in the catalogs. I got her from TSC last year.
She almost looks like a cross between a runner and a pekin. I love her though.

I'm going to make sure and handle these babies a lot more so that they are friendlier. It's not that my other one isn't, she's just a little skittish.

I love runners though.

All my current Runners were McMurray, or hatched from McMurray stock. I love them! I am upgrading to Holderread (but keeping my current birds, too, of course!), and can't wait to get them, but the McMurray stock was healthy and happy and productive, so I think you're gonna love them. Congrats!!

I chose runners for their skills (pest control) in the garden, and their small size. They are going through a phase now, those adolescents, where they have become a bit standoffish, even though we used to spend some good quality time together in the brooder (right after I cleaned it), several times a day.

But, they began to feel cornered when I joined them in the brooder, so for now, I let them roam the hall while I clean up, and we will spend quality time outside together when the time comes. I take them outdoors when the weather is nice and I can hang out with them.

Do try to keep close contact with those young'uns - I just love ducks. And keeping them used to handling with doubtless help when you need to treat injuries or check for problems.

Oh god I'm a nervous wreck... I think I understand how the pacing fathers felt when they weren't allowed in the delivery room. lol

Our car broke on Sunday. My only way to get to the P.O. Is my sister. She's working today. So if they arrive at the P.O. today, I won't be able to pick them up till 3:30.

Please tell me they will be ok.

I've ordered every duck I have from McMurray. They all are beautiful, especially the runners... I'd say some of mine rival Holderread's. And they'll be fine if they're at the PO for a little while, but mine always arrive on a wednesday rather than tuesday.

They'll be fine! They don't need food or water for up to three days after hatching, and the post office is temp controlled, and they have each other for company, so don't fret.

But they'll probably come tomorrow, anyway--sorry!

I'll post pics if I can find some later, but I have ridiculous quantities of work to do (I shouldn't even be on the boards right now), and I'm not sure where all my duckie pictures are. Maybe I'll take some new ones later today. Gotta run--
