My bantam Cochins. 7 weeks now. NEW PICTURES =)

people are mean and crazy. my parents' neighbor blamed my family's dog for killing their 18 year old cat (long story, I'll spare you the details), and while she would have LOVED to kill their cat (I'm just being honest), she absolutely didn't. But, the evil man called animal control and they took her away and put her down. All in front of my nine year-old brother at the time who was her bff. It about killed him. HORRIBLE PEOPLE. For the first time in my life, I have wonderful neighbors now here at my new house and I thank my lucky stars every day. Everywhere else I've ever lived, I've had monsters for neighbors on at least one side.

I say, keep him and hold your ground with this one. You have the law on your side.

I know! Honestly, I don't mind any animal noise at all, but if other people do, why don't they call on them??? I don't know, maybe this woman did, but the cops don't do anything about it

Aww...poor thing. That's another thing, Why do people always want to kill a poor animal because it does something that is in it's nature (I believe you, that the dog didn't do it. I just mean wild animals and situations like that.) Oh man, I don't know what i would do if someone had my dogs taken away to get killed. I honestly could not help myself and beat them to a pulp. I am not violent until someone hurts something I love

That's the thing, it is within the law. But the ten extra hens are not, so they might let us keep him but if they find out about the number, they will make us get rid of them

Sometimes specifics (such as no roosters) are not mentioned in the same place as that you are allowed to have fowl. Check the noise ordinances. My personal, and very strong belief is that noise ordinances should be based upon a measure of decibels, and possibly pitch, time frequency & duration, not upon the cause of the noise.

A very noisy whining & loud saw can be as or more annoying than a rooster. A dog who is outside and barks at every puff or the wind is neither more not less annoying than a rooster who does the same. And loud music from a neighbor's stereo may or may not be annoying, depending on how you feel about that particular genre.

Well, according to the judge, we were not breaking the law. And if we were and they wanted to do something about it, then they should stop all of the other needless noises too.

I think I was unclear though when I was explaining earlier. The cop came to tell us to get rid of the rooster. We found a home for him and about a month later, he was killed. Awhile after that, we had a courtdate to fight the fine for breaking the law. It was then, that the judge threw out the ticket and told us we were within the law. Noone had proof that he was louder than what was allowed. So, if he were still alive at that point, I would have brought him back home. At that point we only had five hens. Now, it would be legal for us to keep this boy, but we are technically breaking the law now by having 10 to many hens.

well, everyone thinks I'm a bad person for being a little happy about this, but a few months ago, that evil neighbor man who had my little brother's dog killed (I was the one who rescued her from the pound and she was my baby too... lap dog extraordinaire!) died suddenly of a heart attack at a fairly young age. In my opinion, what goes around comes around. Karmic justice.

I don't think you are a bad person for feeling that way. He killed something you loved. It is no question why he had a heart attack! He was filled with hate and stress. In my opinion that is the biggest killer.

oh most definitely. He was angry all the time anyway... always yelling and swearing terribly at the kids in the neighborhood, always mean to everyone. Stress like that is plain old hard on your heart and general health.

So, what kind of other chickens do you have?
