my wife fell in love with this double laced barnvelder hen that was for sale. (and rightfully so she is gorgeous) and fortunately the hen had one chick that had to come with her. why she only had one i forgot to ask.
My question is, is the chick a rooster or hen? And second is it a purebred Barnie or a crossbred?

In my limited experience i vote hen but i am still a chicken rookie.
Tell me experts if i am right or up in the night.

mixed breed and still looks like a pullet so far but a bit young to really tell for sure but over coloring and comb development says pullet still

its look like a girl to me

I have barnevlder pullets at home the boys you could tell easily from the girls at 3 weeks as they had much more comb growth

I also say its a cross but it is possible it does have barnevlder in it. It feathers are barred but these tend to change in to laced feathers

Thanks for the comment. I was hoping for another hen even if she is just part barnie. if you get a chance to post some pics of your barnie chicks i would love to see them.

thanks,
steven

What ever she is ,she is CUTE!

heres some pics of mine, the last one is a roo but the first two pics are girls

Wow! Those are some pretty birds.
The bad news is I went to close the coop at dark tonight and my chick is gone and the hen that is the mother is missing a bunch of feathers that were scattered about. So I think I have a predator issue. I am going to set up a live trap tomorrow.
