My Barred Rockabillies and Rockets

Well, I can tell you that (based on the 1st photos you posted) 1 & 2 are girls, 3 is a cute little boy, 4 & 5 are boys!!

If I had to guess- I say barred rocks- by looking at the feather barring... There are some experts on here that would know more.

Their legs aren't crayon yellow when they are that young-so it can be hard to tell them apart from Marans. But I tell you, # 1 and 2 have very white looking beaks...

To be continued...

This is really cool...

I appreciate all this info and help. It is nice to have others to share information and talk to about all these things. Which a great deal is new to myself. It's in my blood but I don't know everything... Thought I did when I was a young lad,

I like how that my Dad, now 50 is getting into this, he is doing it for the family and I am glad to be a part of things.

As for my birds, They are all doing well except for "Runt"... has not grown much at all in the past week and today almost choked cause his crop was stuffed full. Kinda scared me.

I really like bird Number 4, has a very different look compared to the other birds and have noticed that all of the Chick's.... their legs have a bit more yellow in them.

Looking like I have a few Roo's indeed.

56 days old now..... (7.7 weeks..lol)

Soooo....after spending a few hours watching the birds today, and with the observations that I made I have come to the conclusion that all but 1 are roos. We will see in the coming weeks.

Regardless they are ready for their Coop, now I just need to get it ready.

I have seen a lot of barred rocks with white legs. I dont know where its coming from, hatcheries, Id imagine. Cuckoo marans hens are very dark with very little white. Barred rock hens have more black to the white. From those pics, Id say you have barred rocks, and the majority of them are roos.

An interesting thing I noticed today while enjoying the antics of my birds.

My Barred rocks, out of 6 birds 3 of them now have yellow legs, 3 still have whiteish pink?

Weird.

I will post pics as soon as I can get some good shots.

Cheers!

I believe barred rock pullets can also have some shade of black on their legs, that's not for all of them but some of them do that's an easy way to tell boys apart from girls when barred rocks are babies.

speaking of marans this liitle girl is darker and less barred than the others do you all think that maybe she is a marans her legs are dark too. That would be way coolm She is 7 weeks old
