My beautiful d'Uccle roo was almost killed by a dachsund

Actually, we were home the whole time. We'd put 10 bags of play sand down in the 'big kid' enclosure and had been in the garage putting away tools and such. I went inside to get a drink of water before putting everyone away.
I'm thinking the attack had just taken place when I came out to get the chickers, and my cat distracted the dog. Jezebel has been seen chasing away the neighbor's cat when it got too close to the chickens.

TN's eye is swollen worse this morning, and he can't see out it again. I'll wash it again and rinse his eye with the artifical tears again.
Haven't had a chance to call the vet: was out all morning with my youngest, getting 2 teeth pulled for braces

TN's eye was sealed shut tonight. And when I tried to wash him off he fought with me. He's not done that until tonight. Hopefully it's a good sign.

I washed his eye with a warm wet washcloth. I held it in place for as long as he would let me, and managed to loosen the lids. His eye is now open again. Still looks like a Rocky Balboa slit, but the pupil is still responsive and he flinches when I wave my hand at that side of his head. I rubbed a generous amount of ointment in his eye again, much to his dismay. I suspect the ointment is the only reason I was able to free those lids tonight.

Hopefully tomorrow afternoon will be nice enough for a little fresh air. Didn't want to let him out in the snow this afternoon.

He and the girls are tired of living in the garage. If it gets pretty and warm again I may let them hang out in their coop during the day Wednesday.

Still no antibiotics. Vet "doesn't work with birds". Was referred to the UT vet clinic. Am waiting to hear back from a friend, first. She had a vet that worked on her chickens. Am hoping to get that vets name.

Lori, do you want me to send you some antibiotics when I put those eggs in the mail? I have Terramycin that is water soluble, and Tylan injectable. Let me know.

The water soluble Terramycin would be awesome! Thank you so much!!

We've had snow and I can't get hold of my friends to get their vets name. Not sure if they're out of town or without power...

This morning when I first checked TN's eye was closed again. Then I gave them a big chunk of whole grain bread to play with all day. The next time I checked on him his eye was open. Guess he needed both eyes to compete with the girls for the treat

My millies do

bread!!!

No problem. I have used some out of it already but there is still almost a whole bag left. I will stick it in the box. I have the dosage wrote on the outside of the ziploc I have it in.

I am so glad the he is doing better. I hope he continues to improve and that swelling goes down.

Ok your Milles love bread, but they sure could love to lay

The millie pullets are lazy girls.
I think they're waiting until spring. They know they have me wrapped around their little feathers and are in no danger from my impatience.

Georgie's Welsummer hatch-mates have been laying since before Thanksgiving... for their new owners
