Hello everyone! I have been a city chicken keeper since 2003. Mostly keeping only 4-5 chickens at any given time. I usually just let my girls live out their natural lives as pets once they have quit laying. I will try to keep this short - The hen I recently rescued was in a woman's mail order of ISA brown chicks. She had no idea it was not the same as her other chicks until it grew to 3 times the size of the other birds and by the time that happened, she had to reduce her flock and find a home for her "big bird". I volunteered to take her and after doing some research and tracking down the hatchery from which she came from, we think she is actually a red ranger meat bird. She is now 20 weeks old and started to lay and she will now just live life as a city chicken. My concern is that she is already huge! Does anyone know it red rangers get this big if allowed to grow to their adult size? Is this normal? I know that normally they are "processed" at a young age so I cannot find info on what their adult weight should be. Should I just feed her layer feed like my other birds? Any advise appreciated. Thanks much!
