My big fat chicken fight

well now it had to go for review for legal analysis with the U.S. Dep't of Justice. they did find a basis for the investigation and confirmed the NEOC's jurisdiction, so now it goes on the agenda for dec. 18. i see also that our city council has me on their agenda as well for an executive session on december 8. they haven't told me i just happened to see it on their website. i'm really hoping and praying that it will turn out in my favor.
i did have a final interview with the investigator, and we went over evidence submitted by their witness and i had a few things to dispute that were not correct. she seemed optimistic but could not say either way what the outcome would be.

Best wishes for you! I don't think I could do all you are doing even though I too find the chickens are very relaxing for me.People say that about fish or having a mini waterfall so why not chickens?

You are awesome!!! I love that it's gone up so high in the chain, keep fighting, you're our hero! Seriously, you'll need to write a book about this all because it's an excellent story. The fact that the city council didn't notify you just shows that they're embarrassed and overwhelmed (in over their heads), if they'd just acted like humans instead of stickler bureaucrats. I mean they're CHICKENS, pitbulls are far worse! Keep going, you have our support!

Wow, I have read this whole thread in one sitting (first I saw of it) and THAT'S JUST CRAZY! Can't believe such a small town would harrass you like that over a few chickens. What? Do they not have enough drug dealers to keep them busy? (What small town doesn't?) Good grief. You are one brave lady and I hope you get some justice!

littlegorb I wish you the best of luck in your fight! I too am an illegal chicken owner, just recently they changed the local ordinance around here banning chickens unless you have a special permit and are on a minimum of 3 acres. We are on just one acre and have 44 bantam chickens, 9 are roosters. All my neighbors love them and have said several times they would do anything they could to help me fight it if need be. So far the sherrif drives by and waves as I am giving treats to the flock who free range in the yard. I have been very fortunate so far but am willing to put up a fuss if it comes down to it. You my friend are my inspiration! Keep your head up!

Love it, ChickenAddict, that's inspirational! I've seen it done elsewhere too--in Rockport, MA a few years ago, there was a family that had some chickens and a rooster. Rockport is a small, seaside village, very expensive, a bit hoity-toity. Some bigshot corporate guy bought a 2nd (or 3rd) house there to vacation in, and he complained to the town about the rooster waking him up, because he said he travels the world for work and comes to his Rockport house to relax. The neighbors all rallied behind the rooster, told the bigshot to go stuff it. It was awesome! They even printed bumper stickers that said, "Save the Rooster!" and they did, board of selectman voted against the bigshot. Hoping it goes GREAT for you, LittleGorb! And how silly does the city council look, all this over some harmless, sweet chickens?

I agree! I too have suffered severe depression for years now and no anti depressants work on me so far. My chickens have changed my life! I had one neighbor come to me picking my brain about the chickens because she too wants a flock of laying hens for eggs and pet purposes, she buys eggs from me right now! If you could get enough neighbors to "break the law" with you perhaps that would be enough to get them off your rear? Thats my master plan anyway. In any case I really hope you win in the end! People really underestimate the theraputic value of owning chickens. Not to mention the other benefits!

thanks everybody for your support! i do believe the city is embarrassed about this carrying on so long, just so they can have control. chickenaddict i would think that you'd be granfathered in since you had chickens before the ordinance was passed?
journey11, the cops here really don't have anything better to do, they don't bust the drug dealers here, so they must like that sort of activity. CHICKENS ARE MY DRUG OF CHOICE YESSIR! they really are therapeutic aren't they?
