My birds have been...burgled?

I can't believe what some people are capable of doing. I'm so sorry.
Several years ago we were hit by Hurricane Floyd and someone broke into my barn during the storm and stole 2 ewes and 2 lambs. A few days before that two men stopped to ask if I had any lambs for sale. I told them I did not, but didn't think to get their LP even thought they were kind of skeezy. I'm sure that's who stole my sheep. Now I get the plate number of every vehicle that stops and asks about eggs, birds, sheep, goats or dogs (I have a kennel). It really stinks that we have to be suspicious of people who simply may be curious or want information. I guess that's just the way it is.
I also had a friend who had a dog stolen from a dog show. She finally got it back weeks later because we all were tenacious about getting flyers with the dog's info and photo plastered all over the area. If they came down, we put them back up. We worked in shifts, so that the area was "patroled" by someone every couple of days. The guy who returned the dog said he found him, but he had obviously been taken inside because he still smelled of grooming spray.
Be really diligent about keeping posters up. If you have pics of your chickens put them on the poster because pictures will catch people's attention more that a flyer with all words. Also, contact all the shelters in your area and in surrounding areas, just in case someone decides all the publicity is too much to handle. That's what we think happened with my friend's dog and why she got him back. Good luck.

It "just shows to go ya" (as my pop used to say..)That humans are NOT to be trusted.
"Trust...but verify" is my new motto.
I'm still looking for that cabin in the mountains with only a Helo pad and airplane hangar for a driveway......

My husband always remarks at how I trust people too much. That's just a shame that I can't trust people. I would never ever think of stealing someone's chickens. That's just plain odd. Chickens aren't that expensive either and around here they're not too hard to find. Especially if you drive south 30 minutes, there are TONS of chickens and other farm animals for sale.

Well, I made posters and posted on Craigslist. We'll see if I have a good Christmas afterall.

OMG!
i'm so sorry.
if any of my animals were taken i'd be crushed.
and, with ALL the animals sitting in shelters waiting for good homes it is rediculous and stupid that someone would go and steal animals that already have a good home!
hang in there,
f. weeble

I can't believe it. I know what you mean, you can get chickens anywhere, why take yours? I'm sure you are devastated, I hope someone sees your chickens and calls you.-Karen

I am SO sorry this happened to you. I wish I could use a good swear word to vent how I feel about such a scummy dirty rotten thing to do. May the perpetrators get goiters and boils!

Hope you're able to enjoy the holidays despite this upset. Be well.

This is my first post here, sorry for your loss. I was just going to paste your ad off of Craigslist for the recovery of your birds. I'll keep my ears open out this way. I hope you can catch a lead for their return.

THANX RICH
