Those shows shouldn't let people just walk out with chickens! Thats wrong. there should be some kind of security where folks can sign their chickens IN and then OUT.

I'm sorry Ryan!

Ryan,

I am so sorry that this happened to you. Were they standard or bantam Cochins?

This same thing has happened at some of the other big shows, too.

Did you look to see what the participant numbers were on the cages on either side of your birds? You could call those people and ask if they saw anything.

Get luggage locks for your cages. The cage can still be lifted off the bird, but that is much more likely to attract attention.

This is what I was going to say...When our girls show there birds and rabbits at the fairs they require them to all have locks on the cages just for this reason(it does happen). Where were you when this happened(like was someone talking to you, to distract you too??) Sometimes people can be sick. Doing a set up type to theft. They could of distracted you long enough too, just to get into the area where your birds where. We did have a simalar thing happen last year at one of the fairs. This lady kept looking at our rabbits. Asking question about her, and even mentioning that she could end up missing--because she wanted our rabbit so bad. Thank goodness we had the cages locked or I wouldn't of felt safe leaveing them overnight or outta my sight. The rabbit cages weren't liftable over the animal like more poultry cages.
I hope you find whoever did this...I am really sorry it happened...Just outta curiosity were they ribbon winners???
Some people are just sick to do this...

Ryan, I am so sorry for you. I've had that same fear. I can't believe they got out of there with all those chickens!! Someone had to of seen something. I would question anyone you could remember that might have been there. There are a couple other people on here that are talking about that show... I would ask them. I would also post a local ad in the newspaper stating what happened. Maybe someone will remember something

I am so frustrated with you. I know what beautiful birds you have.

Unfortunately most shows have a disclaimer stating they are not responsible for loss or injury to birds.
As far as locks or anything, if the cages are locked, the judges will not be able to judge the birds.
I hate that this happened, hopefully someone saw something and you can track down your birds.
