My Black Australorp????

What happened to my all Black australorp? this was the only chick that was all black to begin with and now it has the brown neck feathers. The others are all black now but this one. They are from a hatchery.

sure looks like a black sexlink to me. Did you specifically order Australorps, or just an egg laying bunch?

Specifically ordered them. This is one of 10 that I oredered all the others are black. mUst have got thrown in there by accident?

If its a black star, it must be young. because ive got some black stars and they look more "plump" and not as much gold. i dont know

Yes it is young. 2 days from 11 weeks old.

Looks like a black star to me too. They can have varying amounts of gold in their feathers. I have one with gold from the top of her head down to maybe her neck, and one with gold from her neck down to her crop.

Is a black sex-link and a black star the same thing? The hatchery where they came from does have black sex-links on their list.

Yes, it's the same thing. And I'm sure you have a black sexlink there.

A "black star" is one variation of a black sexlink. You can use many different breeds to create a black sexlink- though the resulting chicks look similiar.
