These babies came from Privett Hatchery through a feed store. They were very very tiny, about two-thirds the size of the other babies the same age. They are black with some white, so I figured they were going to be pure black when they feathered out. Well, some of them are getting almost-black, dark brown feathers, and some are getting black feathers. They have dark legs and straight combs. They are just a little smaller then the new chicks I got, and they are a week older now.

I am pretty sure the black and the brown are the same breed.

Oh, no I don't want sexlinks. If they are, they are all roosters then? They were out of the straight run box, why would they have sold sexlinks as straight run?

Because the employees where you got them didn't know they were pre-sexed. To them they looked like black chicks. They are females if they are sex-links. Male black sex-links have a distinctive white/yellow "dot" on the top of their heads. They look like Barred Rock chicks...which is probably a good thing you didn't grab any chicks that looked like Barred Rocks! lol!

Oh, well that makes sense.

Well, I didn't see any in the box with white on their heads.
