My BLACK Copper Marans is BROWN. When will he develop proper coloring?

Yes the difference is that the US Standard allows some red on the breast, the French Standard requires sparse red ticking on the breast.
They attempts to get solid black breasts could be one of the reasons so many US Brown-Reds (Copper Blacks) carry the recessive Wheaten gene. Wheatens and Golden Salmons (Gold Duckwings) both have solid black breasts.
Brown-Red (Copper Blacks) pullets carry the recessive Wheaten gene very often have correct plumage at maturity, whereas the cock birds have excess red on the breast and/or yellow neck hackle feathering

Here is a pic of marans from a reputable breeder.... What do you make of the striping and what can I expect as an adult bird. would this be a cull. All of the birds had this color or silver on the head and neck... One appears to be getting white mottling over the saddle area. Any ideas anyone. What happens if I were to breed this???

No white on the breast... my fingers... It is a blue bird all over and the leg color is right... the striping is interesting though.. not at all what I expected. What are the possible end results or have you seen this before at all?

I know many of my Marans are a muddle.
I don't know for certain whether there is any correlation. I get some black chicks which have a grey underside, which is not the usual down colour for copper black/blue chicks. I'm watching these to see whether they are the heterozygous ER/eWh (&/or E/eWh).
