My Black tailed Red Marans

Thanks. I ordered these chick
PS: you and your chooks would be very welcome on the International Black Copper Marans thread (we talk about all marans and more over there).
s 4 years ago and have been hatching for egg color since. I've raised BCM for years (wade jean, little peddler) but have had darker eggs with these black tailed Red Marans. And yes you're correct about it only being recognized in Europe

I'm not sure why my first sentence was cut off but I ordered these 4 yrs ago. Thanks for the invite. Also these are all pullets around 9-10 months old and I'm getting 5 eggs per hen a/wk right now with the below freezing temps so I'm very pleased

As I’m familiar with the English standard I wasn’t aware of this variety of marans. This is a European only recognised colour, right?

Lovely looking birds, I love how the hens are similar to the red wheaten variety but the cock is more distinguishable from the more common Black Coppers. The cock is big and has good type, you have bred them well from what I can see.

Fantastic looking eggs from a non black or birchen variety, something you don’t often see.

Do you know what the genotype of this pattern is out of interest?

I've been working with this breed for 3 yrs now and have been really pleased with them. Good layers of extremely dark eggs and good temperament . here's a picture of eggs from today. The one green egg is from a f6 olive eggerView attachment 4048652
Have you found any distinguishing pattern varieties as they grow to indicate roo or hen? I just got 5 of these and there is barely anything out there on this breed for the chicks as they grow.
Thanks 😊
