My blue layer is now a brown layer! What?????

Try doing what aart said. The amount of brown applied to the shell can vary, but a blue shell layer will only lay a blue shell. You'll see variances is the outer shade of the shell, but if you check the inside it should still be the same. If when you remove the membrane the shell is white underneath then the egg is from one of your other birds.
