my bouncing baby chick

I wasn't saying that it is a bad thing that she is separated from them, I was just saying that that is probably why she is peeping so loud. It is a distress call that they make when something is wrong. One of those things is being away from other chicks.

The very first chick I raised was raised in a box with a hot water bottle, lol. I was in high school and I didn't know any different way. He grew up happy and healthy although I doubt he was very often as warm as they say they should be. He is actually the only one, out of all those sent home with kids, that survived to adulthood. He was very quiet as a chick even though he was alone but I think that is because 1) he was traumatized as a baby by rats, and 2) I was always in arms reach of that box, he went everywhere with me.

yer i have the same prob every time i go to leave PEEP PEEP PEEP loud but ati just had him in the box with the others with a new light which is warm and anywhere i moved him he just stayed there getting cold or hot not regulating do u know anything that could fix that?? i really want him to be in the box with the others but be able to regulate his heat with out me having to move him and he wasnt eating with them that i saw or drinking but my brother did say he ate a bit.

Your box may not have any particularly hot or cold spots. My brooders usually run within 1 degree from light side to the other side. My chicks just sit or wander comfortably wherever in the box as long as I keep the temp steady.

nah there is hot and cold spots the box is pretty big for only 3 chicks bout 1 metre long and 50cm wide 45cm high. and is it bad for chicks to sleep on their side one of the other chicks is sleeping on its side

My chicks sleep on their sides sometimes. Sometimes they even look dead until I wake them up.

My brooders were 3 feet long by 1 1/2 feet wide. Don't know how that converts to metric but it's pretty big. They still stayed very regular in temp from front to back with just one light on the end.

well the other 2 walk around he just stays in the one spot and do u know where the splint for splay leg is ment to line up on the leg right at the bottom near the foot or higher up near the knee

Eww, that is gross. I've never had that happen but it really doesn't sound good. I'd keep a really close eye on your live chicks for starting symptoms. Sounds like something that may be contagious. Maybe make a post on the emergencies, diseases and treatments forum to find out if you should do anything for your live chicks to be sure they don't go the same way!

they shouldnt have it cause she was seperate most of the time and they have had vaccinations
