I've built quite a few of these in my lifetime and they last for years w/ very little maintenance. I have folks that use these as their nightly safe-house for up to 12 full size birds. When used in this way I put additional roosts (3 four footers) located just above the roof-line to get the birds out of the winter wind.

In addition they have a painted steel roof, a drop-down ramp (rope/cleat). internal nesting box w/ outside access, roost, hardware cloth panels that are easily removed for clean out and are then sealed with an oil based cedar stain. They are easy for me to build but only due to repetition/experience. The only woodworking tools used are a table saw, miter/cut-off saw stapler, screw gun and a wooden hammer. They are fun to make!
