Hi to all,
My name is Pat and my Bride and I have been talking about getting a few Chickens for a while now. We finally made the big decision and decided to go all in. With that said I began to build a coop about a month ago. The first week went a tad slow as I am one of those who will never get any plans and just jump in and start to build. Lets just say that I worked on it for 40hours. 36 of those hours was sitting there thinking about how I should start. 2nd week went a little bit better. 3rd and 4th weeks, well, you know. I just have to paint and roof it. Another couple of months and I should have the run done. Ha Ha.

I have been on this site for that entire month and have gained a wealth of knowledge about these birds. We will wait till spring to get the chicks as it gets a tad cold here in the winter months.
We are thinking about getting three buff orpingtons to start with and see how that goes. My coop is rather small so I think that is all that will be comfortable in our setting. I will post pics of the coop, or as my bride calls it the Poultry Palace as soon I figure out how to do that.

Thank you all for this great site

Pat

! Pleased you joined our community! Happy to hear BYC was useful for you! I agree with your decision to wait til spring. As late as it is in the fall, it just makes sense to get all the groundwork done and then you'll be all set. I think hatcheries start selling baby chicks as early as February. Best of luck, thanks for joining and good luck with your spring chickens!!!

Welcome to BYC, Pat - thanks for joining us. Good to hear that the coop is nearing completion - anyway, spring is a while off, so time is on your side. Please make yourself at home.

Best wishes

Howdy there, Pat and welcome to Backyard Chickens! Thanks for joining us! You will have all winter long to come in from working on the coop and warm yourself by the fire while you read up on keeping chickens! I hope you enjoy BYC and find it as helpful as I have!
