Hi, I am getting 7 RIR chicks at TSC on sunday. The only box I have available is a 2x2 cardboard box. How long will this last. Unfortunatley we can only have hens on our property and I am getting them st. run. Anybody need a rooster (when the time comes)[IMG]

That 2x2 box is gonna be too small. I use Rubbermaid totes, they work grat. I realy like the clear sided ones, as I can watch the chicks alot more. LOL. Cardboard wont last very long anyways. Plastic is the way to go. You can get a decent sized tote for 5-10 bucks. and the great thing is they are reusable![IMG]

From what I have read day olds need 1 square foot per bird the first week, then 2 square foot for a while. (How long someone else will have to chime in here.) Those are good size chickens and will need more room very soon. John
