So last night I put my 2 broody silkie hens in their own broody coops. I went out to check an hour later and my White silkie was packing her door trying to get out. I took her eggs out and replaced them with fake ones and decided to check on her in the morning. This morning I go out and she is still packing and had ripped up her cage. I put her in with the little gray silkie, who she had sat with for a few days before I moved them into the broody coops. The white silkie went right into the nest box and huddled in with her and her eggs.
1. The gray silkie's eggs are a week older than the white silkie's eggs. Would it be possible for them to brood together, or once Gray's eggs hatch would White either steal her chicks or abandon her nest?
2. They are pretty squished in a nest box. Should I remove it and just let them sit on the ground?
3. Should I try to separate them out again? If so, should I do it soon or later when the chicks are about to hatch?
Thanks! (Pics included)

Maybe get another nest box to go side by side.
I hope you have the egg marked by date.
Broody's should be moved before giving them eggs to hatch, IMO.
I've never had 2 broodies at once, so take my advice with a rain of salt.

I tried doing that with another nest box and the white silkie just crawled back in with the gray. I have the eggs marked and can tell which are which.
I gave the gray silkie her eggs a while before moving, and she's doing fine with them so it's not an issue. The white I had eggs prepared for her and gave them to her last night, but removed them and replaced them with fake eggs when I went out and saw her pacing.

I had 2 silkies brood together. I put two nesting boxes side by side and put 1 in each they did fine both raised chicks together.
I tried doing that but I think they need to be huddled together in order for the white to brood. It's not cold or anything I just think she's needy

They might work out fine like that.....or not.
The weeks difference could really cause problems,
again just from what I've read-no experience.
Keep us posted.
Best of cLuck :fl

I think I'll try seperating the white or gray from the other again soon. If that doesn't work I'll just do separate nest boxes but I have a feeling there will be some chick/egg-stealing. I'll figure something out....:):jumpy
