i checked my hen at around 9:30 pm, she was doing fine with her 2 chicks. Went back out 30 minutes ago, 1 chick was missing. The one chick she has now is being abused by the hen. I'm lost, I honestly thought this was going to work but I guess not

I looked everywhere around the coop and could not fine the chick that went missing. What do I do?? What went wrong?? :(

Not every hen knows what to do, or what chicks are. It's important they are watched those first few days. Is she with other birds? That can cause problems too.

You will need to pull the remaining chick and brood it. Hopefully you can find somewhere to get another chick or two so it isn't alone.

Are these her hatches?
First time Mama?
Placed chicks?
first time everything, she's only a year old. Im going to check later today to see if anything has changed, there are still eggs underneath her that haven't hatched yet and I don't have an incubator. I'll probably separate her in a couple hours ( it's very early in the morning right now and it's raining)

edit: not her eggs they are bantams

My Cayuga duck does the same thing soon a so they start to hatch she kills them. What I do it soon as they internal pipe I bring them inside and let them hatch make sure it’s warm and moist. Next year I’m buying a incubator it’s a lot of work and I find they are weaker when you take them away but only takes about a week to get their strength up.
