my broody

well i have a hen that has become broody. after i rehomed her mate ..not the one i wanted 4 her so he had to go , besides i had 3 roos in one run..
1. so i have a few questions: do they tend to be in a trance while on their nest?
2. how many full sized eggs can she sit on ? ( she is an american game bantam)
3. she is in a coop with 5 other chickens will her babies be ok after they hatch?

Congrats on the broody! They are great.

1. They are in a complete trance while they nest. Just make sure that Mom has access to fresh food and water, and nature & instinct will take care of the rest.
2. I have never had a broody bantam, but my RIR has sat on 11 eggs before.
3. She should be fine as long as no other hen wants to steal her nest. When the eggs hatch, she will protect them. Some people put their broodies in a little pen. I've always left mine in the coop so that the other birds can see them. But, i have a small flock and a large yard and coop.

Welcome to broody heaven!
1. Yes they are sooo focused, this is usually accompanied by strange noises
2. I haven't had a broody bantam either but I have read other posts and they seem to run around six.
3. You could leave her with the rest, Mom will not tolerate anyone picking on her kids!

thank you both. her nest is a covered cat litter box, she does come out atleast once a day & i have a bator going rt now ..thats where i got the eggs to give her ,she was on a golf ball & 2 ping pong balls. i threw her out while i was cleaning the coop & as soon as i left to grab something else back in she went . so i started the shop vac & she refused to leave so ifigured she was in for the long haul lol.
my coop only has 6 birds in it & the run is plenty big enuff so i think they will be ok. ohh i did go to check on her & was gonna look under her & she wasnt gonna have it lol she bit me ( no blood , just enuff to say hey those are mine) im excited!!!! hatch day is aug 31
