I bought 3 very cute Buff Orpington chicks at the feed store from a local breeder. He is there almost every Saturday. He only breeds RIR, BO, Barred Rocks, and just recently started with some Lavender Orps. He doesn't have any crested breeds. So how in the world did my girl end up having a mohawk? Has anyone else that has Buff Orpingtons had some crazy head feathers going on? She looked just like the other two until a few weeks ago. She looked like a unicorn at first because she only had one feather up there and gradually grew in a few more. I don't mind though. She is still super cute and sweet just the same :)

Her with the 2 other BO and RIR I bought at the same time.

She is absolutely adorable. I havent seen any other Buff Orps like her.

Im thinking that somewhere in her lineage, she has something like Houdan or Polish. There are other crested breeds like Appenzeller , but that's probably pretty far fetched since they are usually white/black .

There is also a Russian Orloff. The only physical traits that they have in common is the color, although the Orloff has white spotting.

Well, just my thoughts, who knows, Im probably no where correct, either way, she is so cute.

Thanks guys! :D I love her because she is so super sweet. She always sits on my arm when I visit the coop. I guess she has a little rebellious streak in her somewhere ;)

Well she sure does add interest to your flock. I admire an individual who dares to be different.
