My buff Orpington can’t close her beak

If she won't eat it, you might have to squirt it right in her throat (without the piece of food, we don't want her to choke).
I’m nervous that gapeworm isn’t the problem; I’ve just swabbed her throat and there are no signs of gape worms. Is it possible to miss them in a swab?

Possibly. I've never dealt with gapeworms before so you might have missed them, the safegaurd doesn't hurt to treat if they don't have gapeworms either. Do you have long grass in your yard? Maybe she got some strands stuck in her throat.

I’m going to treat for gapeworm. We have long-ish grass in the yard, and I’ve seen neighbor kids poking grass into the run. If it’s that kind of obstruction what on earth can I do? I can’t even find her crop to massage it, it seems so empty.

I unfortunately don't think you can do anything if it is grass. If it is not stuck in her crop, but in her throat, then you can't do anything about it and you may have to put her down. Hopefully it's just the worms so we can get rid of them.
