Hi my Buff Orpington duck is setting her eggs, not sure when she started setting them. I checked them this morning and non appear to be cracked, but they the shell has lighter and darker areas. Is this normal?

Do you have an egg candler? You can probably make something that will work (there are instructions online for that, probably some in the BYC forums). Do they smell bad?

Hi and thanks for all the great advise. Unfortunately I dont have a candler I will try and get a high lume flashlight tomorrow. I can only do the test near the duck house as the temps here have gone down to only 17celsius today. The eggs dont smell but I am concerned about the light patches. I took a picture of one of
the eggs and it is in my " uploads". It seems that all the eggs have these light shell patches. which can be clearly seen at the top of the egg in my picture. Anyhow
I will have to wait until tomorrow morning to check again as the duck is very protective of the eggs.
