Hi my Buff Orpington has been sitting on her clutch for 20 days and this morning two have hatched out - yay! There are still three more to go. I know the standard idea is to leave the babies with her, I think they are under her wings, but I'm afraid that she might sit on the live babies and crush them while the other eggs hatch. Any advice? I'm even afraid to lift up Buffy and keep looking because I don't want to disturb her. Should I take the babies out from under her and keep them warm somewhere else while she broods on the other three eggs?

I know I should probably leave her alone but this is killing me! I've raised lots of chicks but have never had a hen hatch them out herself.

Any ideas would be helpful, thank you!!!!

Leave her to it. Chickens have been hatching chicks for hundreds of years. She's fine.

Thanks ya'll, that's what I need to hear.

Ok so three now have hatched, two more green/blue eggs still under her!!! The chicks are kind of staying under her wings. Happy Easter!!!!
