My chicks hatched this weekend, and boy are buttons TINY!!! I got a total of 17 from 36 shipped eggs. I think I broke 1 egg candling them before I set them, then the turner broke 4, I had to remove the shelf liner, it made too much traction for the buttons and the resistance smashed them right up. Once I took out the liner they turned fine with no issues. I had the last of my celadon eggs from the cages that were invaded and the birds massacred. I had set all the eggs, even weird shaped, filthy, odd shelled ones lol, plus all my fridge eggs, and I’m gonna say at least 15 popped in the bator, and I had to spot clean like 6 times, but I put in anything I thought had a chance at all. I believe I ended up with 12 or 13 cots.

Here are the pics:
I put in 1 cot chick for the picture, to give size reference.

Here are my cots, several snowies and pearls. Unfortunately, I had moved some into the cages from the grow out, and it hadn’t been 2 weeks (more like 4 days), so I can’t be sure they’re all celadons, they could have been mated by the k dales before they were moved, so any males I keep will need to be tested, but I have all winter to work on that.

I have a few fakers:

Looks like you had some pretty great hatch rates! I'm glad to see that for you! I am not sure I can fully comprehend how tiny those buttons must be if they are that much smaller than a cot chick!! :love How fun though! I hope you got lucky and got mostly celadons so you don't have to start that all over again too! I opted to take the winter off of hatching and such...it's nice having my bathtub back haha. You will have to post more pics as the buttons feather out!

I’m going to show the progress from chicks to adults, if I can keep up with it.

1. This one looks the most like Darth Vader chicks that Ive seen. I banded it green.

I’ll make another post later for the next color group.

Here are the solid colors, 2 black and 1 yellow. I’m guessing the black are blue face, the yellow might be white or splash, idk, I wasn’t expecting any white. Of course, yellow got wet running away from me trying to catch it for the pic.

Some updated pics, I lost 2 slate chicks a few days ago, they suddenly splayed and faded away. The third is small, but seems ok, I had put the shelf liner back in when they splayed, and only one corrected, I believe the slate chicks had some kind of internal deficiency, and were weakening and couldn’t stand straight. I removed the liner today because they were burrowing under it haha.

I set my new eggs today, I ordered 18 blue face, 18 darth Vader, and 18 cinnamon red breasted, but last time I got a wide variety despite what I ordered, so we will see what I get. The USPS looks to have hit my box with a car, 3 eggs were crushed, I’m not sure how shaken the rest were. Fingers crossed 🤞
