I have never raised chickens before and decided that I wanted to give it a go. After searching for coops online I was shocked at the prices for new coops. I just finished remodeling my house and had a lot of building materials left over. My Daddy also had an old truck camper top that had been laying in his backyard for years. The wheels started turning! I built the coop and then purchased 12 "mixed" breed chickens straight run (God please help them to not be all roosters!) I also made the waterer and feeder using five gallon buckets . The rear hatch opens for easy egg access. The windows also open if needed in the summer.

The chicks are 6 weeks old and love their coop. I will be posting pics of them soon for advice on possible breeds and opinions on if I have males or females. I keep a light on for them at night as it is still cold here in the evenings. That should end soon. The fencing may seem extreme, but I also have a fox problem here in SC. So far, so good. They seem very happy!
Hi everyone and thanks for the warm welcomes! I LOVE this site and really appreciate the wealth of knowledge in the forums. The support is so that I assured myself that I could do well raising chickens with the help of a few BYC members and their knowledge. Thanks again
