we have a 8 year old siamese that thinks she is a dog, we have had several batches of chicks in the utility room, the brooder box top is open 24 hrs- she never touches them. i have even come home to find them loose - she still has never touched one. i have told my dh that she is not normal!!!!but she loves bathes, dogs and i really think she does not know she is a cat... sorry yours got your chicks....

I am so sorry. This happened to us last week with with a big ole dog.

It's just an awful feeling. I wanted to throttle my dog.

I hope you feel better soon, but really, you'll feel better when you feel better, and there's no telling when that will be. Hang in there, and don't let guilt get the best of you. These animals run on instinct.
