My cat protects the flock

Unexpectedly my indoor/outdoor cat sits and protects my 2 hens and rooster.

I’ve even started noticing that my rooster (my chickens are free range) will follow her and seems like they feel safe to forage around her. PS. This is my first flock.

I’m so happy.

My Maine Coon and the girls have a working relationship as well. I find that cats and chickens get along very well generally speaking.

Here is my cat in the backyard and by the coop. I can't find one her with the chickens right now. Too many photos on the phone.

Cats generally don't bother adult chickens so long as they are well fed. I wouldn't ever mix cats and baby chicks, though. That never ends well.

Phyllis has bullied every one of our cats. If she can get in the house she will eat their food. She may look like eye candy but she is tough.
