I walked into the garage today and checked the brooder box finding one of my week old chicks not able to walk, i moved her into a separate brooder and i think she has a broken, sprained or dislocated left leg/foot.. Any suggestions on what to do for the poor little chick.

Awww, poor baby. Can you post a pic? I saw on a vet TV show when a duck got a hurt foot the doc bandaged the poor duck's leg to its side. But I wouldn't do that without veterinary knowledge. I'm praying!

If you're sure it's a leg injury, not a reaction to vitamin deficiency, the best way to heal it is to rig a chicken hammock. For a chick, it's as simple as stretching an old wash cloth over a frame and cutting two holes in the center for the legs to hang down. This creates "traction" so the legs are in proper position for the injury to heal.

Use the BYC search feature at the top of the page to find photos and more information.

If you aren't sure what's causing the chick not to be able to walk, I recommend posting on the Emergencies forum.

Yea, im not sure whats causing her immobility but she's at least able to hop around to the food water and heat lamp.

Can you post a pic of it and it's foot? I had a duck that hurt his foot and I just let him go about with his business and he was fine.
