My chick excitement just deflated

I'm sorry I have to vent to someone that understands the excitement of baby chicks!

I have a small order of 11 chicks coming from Meyer 2/22. Well, my local post office doesn't get mail to sort anymore effective 9.09, and it goes thru a VERY unfriendly and unhelpful office 15 miles away from me (which never called and just dropped my broiler chicks on my front step last fall, the amish neighbors saw that and took care of them for the day, but we lost 1/3, either from the kids playing with them or bad stock). That post office won't let me come in before they open to get my chicks, so I'd have to take the morning off from work as I work 50 miles away from that P.O.

So, as I work in a small office of 8 people and we have plenty of extra room, I asked my boss if I could have them shipped to our P.O. box in this town and just put them in the furnace room (we have a huge new office with lots of empty space) for the day. He said fine, no problem (I told him it'd be a small box with just 11 day old chicks and I don't need to care for them (I'd just mix up some grow gel for them on my break). 10 minutes later, after the office %*@! found out my approval, who happens to be the boss' nasty little pet, my boss tells me I can't have them here as they'll be a distraction and too noisy. What!? Are we 12?

I'm soooo mad right now. I really dislike this woman anyway. And now she just asked me something and was so nicey-nicey, I wanted to deck her. Grrrr....

Now I have to look for a breeder that I can drive to on a weekend.

Sorry, was that mean?

I hope you find someone close. Good Luck and God Bless!

Is there a shed or some other sort of out building on the premises where you could set up a brooder for the day and they'd be quiet, happy, and out of the way?

No family or friends live w/in 20 miles of us and all are in the opposite direction of my job (fulltime M-F days) and my husband works long days so he can't help out either.

...yeah...and everytime she spoke to me, I might mention that she is being a noisy distraction to me.

I'm so sorry. It's sad that your fun has to be ruined so thoroughly! Why people can't be more helpful to others is beyond me...

Shed? Wisconsin, 3rd week of February, chicks outside = chicksicles!

Just like we had our Christmas party scheduled here and she didn't want to go that night (decided the day before), so I had to cancel the restruant. Then we rescheduled it for the same place for this Friday, but she decides after everyone confirms to my message about it, that she doesn't want to go there so the boss switched it to where she wanted to go. It's ridiculous. I love this job and it has great benefits, but she sure leaves a lot to be desired in a co-worker!

Sorry to go OT.
