my chick has been attacked by my puppy!

please help. my splash leghorn chick has been attacked by my Chihuahua puppy. we found him this morning in my sisters room. he was breathing very hard, but were getting some water into him right now and it calmed down. there is a wound in his left side under his wing. feathers are torn out on his bottom and back. some torn out on his wings. he will kinda open his eyes. is he going to survive? what should we do to help him more? he is drinking on his own now.

Well, seeing a vet would probably be the best thing to do.

Even if he survives the trauma and hasn't received any serious wounds, infection can still set in. Therefore, while the victim of a cat or dog bite seems to be doing OK, the infection is spreading and they rapidly decline 3 days later.

Dog and especially cat bite victims are given a very specific antibiotic, amoxicillin-clavulanic (Augmentin).

Isolate him in a dog crate with food/water so he can rest. Clean his wounds only one time with hydrogen peroxide (don't use after this.) If you don't have HP, use dish soap and water, and dry feathers. If you have some neopsporin or polysporin ointment, apply it thinly. They may be in shock for awhile, but if he is alert tomorrow, he may do fine. Offer him some chopped up scrambled egg for a protein boost.

place the chick in a dark warm place I usually use a pet taxi or a plastic tote,provide electrolytes in the water, you can give yogurt or a scrambled egg to encourage it to eat. Clean the wounds with soap and warm water use neosporin or polysporin just make sure it is not the kind with pain relief. Keep wounds cleaned and dry repeat process as necessary. My NN was attacked last month by another chicken and this is what I did and the NN is 100% back to normal. Best of luck and really work with your puppy, training that chickens are friends not toys/snacks,I have a pitt who is 6 months old and I can now safely say he can be trusted around the flock. I started working and training him from the day we bought him. Also if you have your chicks out wandering the house it might be best to place your dog in another room away from the chickens until you feel confident enough to let him/her be around them.
