SHE'S DOING A LOT BETTER!!! I TOOK HER BACK TO THE FEED STORE AND THEY WOULDN'T TAKE HER THEY GAVE ME SOME TERRAMICIN AND I TOOK HER HOME, SOAKED HER IN WARM WATER, CLEANED HER, PUT MORE HELICRISUM ON HER AND WRAPPED HER IN A CLOTH, USED A DROPPER WITH MEDS, AND SAT WITH HER ON MY LAP AND WATCHED A MOVIE. SHE SLEPT REALLY GOOD AND LOVED BEING WRAPPED UP (SHE HAD BEEN STANDING TO SLEEP AND I THINK SHE FELT MORE COMFORTABLE IN THE CLOTH.

I PUT HER BACK IN WITH THE OTHERS ABOUT 3 HOURS LATER AND SHE IS NOW DOING GREAT, HER VENT IS GOING BACK IN AND SHE HAS NO PASTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHE'S MOIST STILL IN THE AREA BUT IT'S NOT NEARLY AS BAD AS IT WAS. I HAVE SOME HOPE NOW.

I AT THIS POINT I AM IN LOVE WITH HER AND AM SO GLAD I KEPT HER AND SHE BETTER LIVE BECASUE I MIGHT DIE MYSELF IF SHE GOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS FOR ALL THE ADVICE AND ENCOURAGEMENT, I NEEDED IT. I'LL UPDATE YOU ON SUNDAY NIGHT.

YourLinkGoesHere I bought this chick along with some others from my feed store (Tuesday) and when I got home I noticed that this one had a white crust (concrete like described in another post) and a swollen butt (vent). All her feathers and down on her back side are gone from this stuff.

The crust is bad and will not go away, I clean daily, soak her, put Melalucea anticeptic cream, vasiline, and Helicrisum (a natural ess. oil) and nothing is helping. It looks like her bum is inside out, could this be from the way she was processed or is she ill?

When I treat her she poops good consitancy without white cap (is that right term?) I also gave her some vits. with water using a dropper, she drank fine.

She has been seen eating and drinking and is chirping all the time. I'm scarded becasue it sounds like the disease pollum-something. Should I take her back to the feed store or keep her and hope she gets better. Can she give this to the other chick or more scarry our family????? PLEASE HELP ME!!!

How old is the chick? If you got her Tuesday, then the chicks could be only be a few days old unless it is a larger bird. Most likely it is stress...keep trying the soaking and cleaning her....I would stop using anything other than vaseline around the vent area. It can take a few days to clear up or even a week. I had one that it took about 3 days and one that it took about a week.

Is it eating and drinking normally?

I can't post a pic becasue my camera is due to arrive today UPS

We're going to take her back to the feed store and pick out a new chick. I'm affraid my hubby will kill her, or if she is ill she'll infect the rest of the chicks. This way she may have a chance, she seems the same today no better. She stands in a corner and "sleeps" and peeps. She also seems to be a lot smaller than the others today, her legs are skinny compaired to the others and she is ruffled.

It's been a bad day none of my chicks in my bator hatched either...WHY DID I START THIS??? I get too involved and it upsets me so much when I see them not thriving.

But hubby and I are going to start the hen house tonight and my other little ladies are thriving and very enjoyable to watch and "play" with; so I'm trying to look on the bright side!

A couple notes here. First of all, I had a chick that continued to have pasty butt no matter how many times I cleaned it. It eventually died anyway. I don't know, but it may be easier to humanely put it down. Just a thought.

Second, you should never use aromatic remedies on birds or reptiles. The meleleuca oil is very dangerous to use around your birds. My mother in law used some on a snake and it died in a few moments. I have read several times on byc as well about people who used aromatic remedies and had their birds die in minutes or even seconds.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but that's all the info I have right now.
