A space heater will not work. You need a heat lamp (or other product specifically made for chicks like the ecoglow etc.) In a pinch you can use a hot water bottle wrapped in cloth that they can snuggle up to - you‘ll have to get up and refill it every couple of hours though. When you have the lamp, hang it so it shines straight down over one end of your brooder box. Put a thermometer and check the temperature on the bedding right under the light. Make sure it is the right temp for the age of your chicks (google the right temperatures). Then get yourself a good book on chicken keeping and raising chicks promptly. This is not something that can be done flying by the seat of ones pants. Animals will die if cared for by someone who doesn’t know what their needs are.
