Hi, I have a 7 week old chick that's pooping blood. She is not acting strangely otherwise. We have 2 new chicks that are about 5 days old and she doesn't get along with them. She used to be the baby in the house. She mostly eats wild bird seed and sometimes eats human food with me, like apples, rice, pasta, citrus fruit and so on. I can't get to the vet so what should I do?

Get her on proper chicken feed. Add probiotic live yogurt and garlic. Treat with Corid which you can buy at feed stores.

The diet you have this chicken on is not good.

She does have layer mix with my hens sometimes. Is there anything specific that I should give them?
Oh, I have vitamins so I added some to her food and I put garlic and apple cider vinegar in her water. I will keep her separately for a while.

I don't understand the yoghurt part, though. I thought chickens couldn't eat dairy?

No, chickens shouldn't eat citrus!

Live yogurt is good in small quantities. Especially when they have a digestive problem.

You've got 2 problems to deal with. Their general diet which should consist mainly of proper chicken feed, and the bleeding which could be due to a number of things.

Treating for coccidiosis is a sensible step. Also checking for vent injuries and upping their good gut bacteria with probiotics.

Last year I changed my flock over to growers/all flock feed from layers feed as it has all the nutrients but not the added calcium. That way one feed suits my laying hens (with oyster shell or crushed egg shells on the side), my cockerels and the growing out chicks. It is much easier than separating them from each other and feeding different food. And I only have to store one sack.

The vits, garlic and ACV are great.

Even though you are separating her, you should treat all your chickens with Corid just to be safe.

This is a good article https://www.backyardchickencoops.co...ickens-prevention-symptoms-and-treatment-tips

Layer mix is not good for young chickens untill they start laying so you will need chick start /grower -chicken feed should be their main diet and healthy treats are a very small added bonus especially when young ... I feed the same as @Chicalina , grower feed with shell (for calcium) on the side as I have chicks, hens and roosters.

Vitamins are great when they need an extra boost and ACV occasionally (I use about once a month and only a few drops added to their waterer) Although some people do use it all the time, there are mixed views on that one.

Hopefully you have the Corid meds and administering those, it doesn't take long till they can die if it's Coccidiosis. Chickens are good at hiding sickness till they are near the end.
