we have a nifty little meat scale LOL, that can be switched from pounds and ounces to grams.

since I don't figure chicks wiegh any ounces, I wiegh them in grams.

so I decided to wiegh Lillies babies this morning, albeit they're 3 days old already, but eh.

SO I'MMA KEEP A LOG!

I saw this post and had to go and weigh mine too.

My 3 SLW chicks are between 45 and 52 grams. The only feather growth I see is the wing feathers.

My 6 GLW chicks are between 127 and 147 grams. They are just getting their shoulder and tail feathers now.

Just out of curiosity, is there too much size/weigh difference between these two batches to house them in the same brooder setup?

Ha ha... I thought I was the only nerdy (kidding) who did this.... I weighed each chick for the first 10 days and then every week for the next 3 weeks. LOL. I graphed it too just cause I'm super tactile kinestetic learner.

I didn't change my mail scale to grams so did .x ounces.

As a side. It did pick up a problem in one of my chicks. Everyone else would gain about .2 ounces every other day, but one got stuck at a weight and that prompted me to take a good look and I saw othe probs. We lost her on day 6.

Good Luck. The kids loved helping me with the process. The chicks also got a good couple of minutes being handled and seemed to expect it after the first couple of days.

We weigh our chicks every night when we bring them in from their outside playpen to go into their night cage, and record their weights on our wall calendar. One night, I was tired and decided to skip the weighing. The chicks peeped loudly and refused to settle down until I weighed each one. Now I know about being careful to establish a routine I might not want to stick with.

Day 4:NN chick:48 grams (gain of 9 grams)
Lt.Brwn chick:53 grams (gain of 9 grams)
DrkBrown chick:43 grams (gain of 7 grams)
Silkie chick:22 grams (gain of 3 grams)
Yllw chick:51 grams (gain of 6 grams)
tan chick:44 grams gain of 7 grams)

it's hard to believe that they gain THAT much in just a day.

We weighed our chicks daily and took pics on the scale. They gained 10% of their weight each day, tripling their weight in 3 weeks!

We weigh the birds we're raising for fair every week. Right now that puts us at 4 ducks, 7 turkeys, 5 roasters and 10 broilers. The cornish will be joining our little party in a week or so ...

Day 6:NN chick:55 grams (gain of 7 grams)
Lt.Brwn chick:53 grams (didn't gain anything O_O)
DrkBrown chick:50 grams (gain of 7 grams)
Silkie chick:23 grams (gain of 1 gram)
Yllw chick:60 grams (gain of 9 grams)
tan chick:50 grams gain of 6 grams)

you'd think they'd be fatter, after spending all day swallowing their own wieghts in those irritating pasture beetles!

(this was from last night)

Day 7:NN chick:58 grams (gain of 3 grams)
Lt.Brwn chick:54 grams (gain of 1 gram)
DrkBrown chick:51 grams (gain of 1 grams)
