My chicken ate a baby bird

A few weeks ago, a small toad tried hopping through our chicken run and the girls attacked and killed it... I took it away before they could eat it but they definitely tried.

Our ladies killed a love dove that got into the chicken run last year. It was a full grown dove. I thought something got one of our chickens with feathers everywhere but, after I checked all the girls we found the dead dove.

They will be fine they thought a treat or they are very territorial of their area.

I'm sure that was shocker to witness, especially the parents behavior......Chicken Yard Drama!

Chickens do have tiny talons on their wrists.
Was a thread not long ago where it was abnormally large.

Um, yeah :sick

Mine chase the wild birds especially the quail that enter their domain. The quail have moved to places further from our house because our chickens are merciless in their pursuits.

I am sure ours have eaten all sorts of things free ranging but at least I haven’t had to witness them eating any of it.

My chickens eat everything-mice, frogs, and birds, even each other. (Once a hawk got a pullet and left part of her. The hens made quick work :() it’s normal. They are omnivores (although too much protein is bad for them) and eat pretty much anything. It’s sad, but it’s also life.
