Help! My Rhode Island Red teenager chick got hold of a small, old piece of duct tape! I grabbed her and tried to get it from her. The piece tore, and she ate the last itty bitty piece that was still in her beak! Will she die??!!

We had a chick that ate a small metal nut that somehow got in their brooder when they were in our garage and lived. I think your bird will be fine.

Thanks all! Wow, chickens really must have tough stomachs! :p I do hope she'll be alright, she's my favorite of my flock. Very sweet, cutest little peep. She will jump on my arm and climb up on my shoulder. And she doesn't mind at all when I hug her to pieces. :hugs

As long as the piece was very small there is a very good chance it will pass. Large things, or sharp jagged things can get caught up and cause blockages or infection, ie: hardware disease. Mine ate all the foam insulation off a pipe once, they were all fine, but I did worry (they no longer have access to that - not a recommended feed item!). They will eat all sorts of odd things, it's a good idea to police the area and do the best you can to keep stuff picked up, but stuff happens.

She was the runt of the litter, she would get pushed from the feeder so I started babying her. Yeah, I know chickens will eat pretty much anything they get their beaks on. This was an old piece that she or another one pulled off a pipe. Curious things those girls! :idunno
