Crazy chicken lady
I wish I had thought to photograph the bedding, but I use Grounds bedding, which is just recycled coffee grounds. I've been using it for about two months and love it so far!
Thus far the flock free ranges, but I hope to change that by the end of the year. This is my newly transplanted apple tree. We used mulch from a rotting tree we found in the woods.
Why did the chickens cross the road? Literally to get to the other side. We have 4.7 acres and yet their biggest desire on earth is to cross the road.
I just moved to this home in September but we manage to build a greenhouse, adding repurposed glass windows as we find them.
We also added this garden on previously unbroken land (yard). A wind storm a while back knocked several trees down so we used those as posts. The mountains on the fence is our farm's (Hidden Hills Farm) logo.
The entirety of my non-working time in the past three months has been dedicated to this garden. Thus far I've transplanted 20 tomatoes, 15 peppers, and have rows of corn, cabbages, winter and summer squash, beans, watermelon, onions, carrots, beets, cucumbers, cantaloupe, and watermelon started. If you can believe it, I have one row still free! I planted some crimson clover on it and intent on starting some more cabbages and broccoli soon as they do best in the fall. I'm in gardening zone 6b.
Freedom chicken! This is Betty Boop. She's the best. Also, her left foot has some wild curly toes. The right is okay as I managed to fix those when she was little. She gets around just fine and is definitely the favored chicken.
Thanks for letting me share my story!
