Rhoda had vent gleet. I have been cleaning her butt feathers the same way for the last few weeks. Holding her backwards to clean her up and treat with medicine. Today I guess some fluid from the crop came up and must have went into her lungs. She could not clear it. She died a few minutes later. I am so sad. Has anyone had a similar experience?

So sorry for your loss! :hugs :hugs

I had a turkey that I think that had happened to. I had picked the turkey up when she appeared fine and to my shock she died in my arms. Then I had a close call with a hen. Again, I had picked her up. Her face went purple on me and she started gasping for air. She thankfully came out of it though. That hen had a lot of health issues and nearly died more than once. (Her last time was because a dog went after her. She survived that too.) Her major health issue was something brought on by her crop area where she had surgery. I've wondered if the surgery caused her further issues and that's why I had that bad experience when I picked her up. (That incident was nearly a year after her surgery.) She never appeared to have fully recovered from her surgery until after the dog attack.
