I'm so sorry for your loss. That's a great age for an EE to get to, though, so be proud that you gave her a long, happy life where she was loved. I lost my rooster after eleven years of him being with me in November, so I know the feeling! They really become a special part of the family when they've been around so long. I'm sure she would thank you for the good care you gave her if she could.
Don't feel bad that you're so upset, chickens are special animals and they can touch our hearts just like any other animal friend. Let yourself mourn, and try to think of the happy times you had together.
I am so sorry. It sounds like she had a great life and was very loved. She was a lucky girl to have you. I hope when your pain passes you can do something with the kids to celebrate her life. May she rest in peace...

Today is a little better, yesterday after I woke up from my two hour nap I just went out to my barn with my border collie (Rocket) and sat on a bucket with my birds all around me. My Silver Laced Wyndott jumped up into my lap and just sat there while I stroked her feathers. I think she misses Dark Cloud just as much as I do. They were great pals and were always together.

I remeber when Dark Cloud was a peep!!! Mom and I kept her and her sister in a wooden box under a light in our back porch and she was the first one to figure out how to jump out and escape.
