My chicken doesn't have any feathers on her chest!

It sounds like she is moulting. Are the stalks you mention not pin feathers coming in. Try searching for pictures of moulting chickens and that might set your mind at rest. It is the right time of year for it to happen and I understand your concern regarding the cold but I've had a chicken moult in the middle of winter and she was fine. It takes time to grow new feathers and they look almost like porcupine quills when they first come in.

There is a thread on here somewhere which is a competition for the worse moulting chicken picture....I'll see if I can find it and then perhaps you will be able to figure out if that's what is happening to her.

This is a link for an old thread for a moult competition...I couldn't find the current one for some reason

Have a good look at all the photos and tell us if your girl is suffering the same fate...

Thank you so much. I googled some pictures of molting chickens and I think she molting. But on her chest there is nothing, not even the beginning of feathers. She is like half molting half bald. But thank you so much, it relieved me. :)

Ahh, this happened to my girl Nelly a few years ago. She is probably molting, Nelly turned out to be just molting. But Good Luck and in case she isn't molting I hope she is ok.

Ok! Thank you so much. That makes me feel better that she isn't a weird case. :P

No it is perfectly normal for them to lose all the feathers on just one patch of their body. Neck moults are quite common but I have one at the moment with a bald chest like yours. It is also perfectly normal for them to lose a few feathers from all over the body and in those cases it is much less obvious that they are moulting, apart from the feathers all over the run and the bird looking a bit thinner and scruffy.
I'm sure your girl will be looking radiant again in a few weeks.

Regards

Barbara
