I am still very green at raising chickens.I think my chicken has been attacked by a dog and she has what I think is dried blood on her back. Tried to take it by rinsing the blood with warm water but it doesnt seem enough. Still cannot see the wound. What else can I do?

Are you using a little soap, & a rag to wash it gently?

Yes I have now succeeded to see the wound which seems to have dried blood on it. Should I keep rinsing with warm water to take off the dried blood? Will the wound open again. Thanks for your wuick reply! Much obliged

She has also laid an egg without shell. Is that because of the trauma she suffered?

Take some pictures, so I can see how bad it is first?

Do you have any antiseptic available, such as Vetericyn or similar wound spray, chlorhexidene, or betadine? You can clean the wound with those or dish soap (just a few drops and warm water.) Then coat the wound with plain Triple Antibiotic Ointment or similar twice a day. Look for any hidden wounds under her wings or elsewhere.

Do you know if this just happened today or could have been there yesterday? You could give her half of a calcium tablet or Tums in her beak to swallow, which could help if she is deficient in calcium. If she was attacked yesterday, the stress might have caused the shell-less egg. Has she been bullied by other hens or a roosters?

I think she was attacked yesterday morning. I could not find her and she returned just before her bedtime. She stayed in her laying box most of the day although she came out of the coop in the afternoon. She usually lays her egg daily without any problems. This morning I found the shell-less egg in the nesting box and this afternoon also found some yolk around her vent. I have betadine and will wash it with it. Thanks again for your advice. Much obliged.

See where rhe wound is and then try and remove the feathers if it is that bad to disinfect it and cover the wound after you trated it preferibally a bandage wrap... Hope she is ok, if she is bleeding a lot if you have a get nearby them go but if not try and hold pressure down
